Evrim Baran
Evrim Baran is Professor and Helen LeBaron Hilton Chair in the School of Education at Iowa State University, with affiliate appointments in Human-Computer Interaction, the Virtual Reality Applications Center (VRAC), and the Translational AI Center (TrAC). With over three decades of experience in educational technologies across higher education, industry, and K–12 contexts, her work spans learning design, development, and evaluation across sectors.
An influential scholar in teacher education, her research advances critical AI literacy and the ethical use of emerging technologies in classrooms, including online and mobile learning, virtual and extended reality, machine learning, and classroom sensing technologies. Her recent work on human-centered AI in education develops curricula and design frameworks that empower educators to integrate AI safely, ethically, and responsibly into teaching and learning.
She has secured funded research from the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institutes of Health (NIH), the European Commission, and other national and international agencies. Her leadership roles in international scholarly organizations and editorial boards, along with multiple national and international awards, reflect her sustained impact on the field of educational technology and teacher preparation.
